Traditional Brick Kilns Inspired The Decor Inside This Vietnamese Restaurant

ODDO architects have designed Landmark 72, the latest location in Hanoi, Vietnam, by restaurant chain Pizza 4P’s.

Inside the restaurant there’s a generous ceiling height of 16 feet (5m), which enabled the designers to be creative, resulting in large cylinders that help create defined zones in the space.

The inspiration for the cylinders arose from the spatial experience of traditional kilns for firing Vietnamese terracotta bricks.

The seven wood cylinders of different sizes are anchored and suspended from the reinforced concrete slab of the upper floor.

They are also structurally supported by T- columns as well.

Wooden blocks, similar in size to traditional bricks in northern Vietnam, have been used to create the cylinders.

The wood blocks were assembled without glue so that the wood can expand itself and allow for changes in humidity.

A combination of other local traditional materials such as wood, rattan, tanned wood surfaces, sanded terrazzo, and steel elements, were all used throughout the restaurant interior as they are low cost and local materials.
