Before And After – A Dark And Dated Kitchen Has Been Transformed With Matte Blue Cabinets And Light Grey Wall Tiles

Interiors by Popov were asked to transform a dark and gloomy kitchen that lacked counter space, and replace it with one that would be bright and complement the rest of the house.

The designers mention, “Starting off at the peninsula, it had a breakfast space for two, but the issue was you were facing an oversized cooktop, which was giving the homeowners minimal counter space and zero prep space around it. Above it was a rack of hanging pots and pans that created a very cluttered and top-heavy feeling.”

The kitchen also had problems with the dishwasher, when open, occupying some to the floor space where one would stand to do the dishes, the tall double oven tower minimized the food prep area, and the upper cabinets had flip-up doors were too high to be able to be used properly.

When creating the new kitchen, the designers mention, “Before we finalize a kitchen design, we like to know where everything will be stored. To be able to so that, we take a detailed inventory of all the kitchen gadgets, dishes, pots and pans… pretty much everything that will be stored in the kitchen.”

The new kitchen features unexpected blue cabinets that have been combined natural medium woods found throughout the home, an uneven light gray backsplash tile acts as a subtle yet striking backdrop for the kitchen, the dark countertops were replaced with white, and black slate flooring and black metal accents throughout added depth and interest.

The kitchen sink was moved from the corner to a location with a better view and more space.

The designers also used LED strip lighting, small flush mounts, and wall sconces, to create a welcoming space.

Before And After – Unused Space Under The Stairs Transformed Into Children’s Homework Station

Great Home Ideas has taken on the challenge of transforming an unused space beneath the stairs in this family home to create a homework station for a child.

The storage space, which was underutilized and accessed by a set of small doors, was opened up, received a coat of paint to make it brighter, and new flooring to help define the new kids area.

A 2 Star Hotel In Greece Has Been Transformed Into A 4 Star Boutique Hotel

A31 Architecture have transformed a 1980s 2 star hotel on Ios Island, Greece, into Hotel Relux, a contemporary 4 star boutique hotel.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

The architect’s description

Sometime during the mid ‘80s, Blue Bay Hotel Ios** was built at the Port of Ios island, overlooking Sikinos, without being renovated or reconstructed for more than two decades.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

That is until the complete renovation of its premises was seen as a necessity, in order to improve the facilities and upgrade the services offered. A31 was then assigned with the responsibility to transform that 2* hotel to a contemporary 4* boutique hotel, which was named Relux Ios Island.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

In order to succeed in that task, A31 redesigned the existing buildings’ outline as well as the bedrooms, the common areas and the surrounding landscape. The landscape design takes advantage of site specific features such as microclimatic and topographical conditions as well as the existing vegetation to blend the hotel exterior seamlessly into the surrounding natural setting.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

The uneven shape of the plot which seems to be “embracing” the complex, forms private gardens as well as adding outdoor spaces for the hotel’s function. The gentle slope that can be easily detected in the surrounding space was utilized as the ideal environment for the addition of build-in sitting rooms or elevated planted areas.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

The plant selection includes Mediterranean species, with rich aromas and flowering, selected on the basis of their low maintenance requirements and their ability to fit in the architectural unity.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

Designed in a subtractive manner, this project is defined by the sleekness of its surfaces. A31 also established flow and movement to the project by securing the organic integration of the water element in the surrounding space. The rooms were treated as individual spaces of island architecture, with unique morphological properties, and not as typical hotel rooms.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

Therefore, all of them were redesigned and new rooms were created with brand new layout and access, in order to meet the 4-star classification requirements.

Hotel Relux Ios Island by A31 Architecture

Furthermore, additional establishments of common areas were constructed, including an open bar, restaurant and wine bar, swimming pool, outdoor revitalization spa and a contemporary orthodox chapel.

The Interior Of This Former Navy Helicopter Has Been Transformed Into A Unique Hotel Room

The Interior Of This Former Navy Helicopter Has Been Transformed Into A Unique Hotel Room

We’ve mentioned glamping in the past, but this time, we’ve come across a bit more of an interesting version…this time it’s glamping in a helicopter.

The team at Mains Farm in Stirling, Scotland, thought creatively and invested in a decommissioned Royal Navy ZA127 Sea King Helicopter, so they could turn it into a unique form of overnight accommodation.

The team at Mains Farm in Stirling, Scotland, thought outside the box and invested in a decommissioned Royal Navy ZA127 Sea King Helicopter and turned it into a fun glamping destination, where you can sleep inside the helicopter.

The helicopter has had its exterior updated and the interior has been transformed into a place where you can stay overnight.

The cockpit, which still has the flight deck, now has a couple of swivel seats and a table, made from an old fuel tank cover. The views from the cockpit look out over the surrounding picturesque landscape.

In terms of sleeping quarters, there are a few beds that can sleep a family of five (2 adults and 3 children) with a double and a triple bed as well as single bed in the tail.

To make sure the helicopter stays cool in summer and warm in winter, the walls were insulated and white painted wood paneling was added, giving the appearance of the inside of a boat. Doors and windows have also been added to provide additional light where needed.
