A Hanging Platform Creates A Bedroom In This Renovated Warehouse Space

A Hanging Platform Creates A Bedroom In This Renovated Warehouse Space

Architect Pia Mendaro was asked by her friend to help her convert a warehouse space in Madrid into an open plan living space, however this also needed to include a bedroom.

Pia explains, “we thought of making a wheeled bed, a cabin, a box with windows … until we decided to detach ourselves from the ground.”

This is when they came up with the idea to hang the bedroom from the gabled ceiling and one of the steel rafters.

Working together with fellow architect Manuel Ocaña, a lightweight, semi-hanging platform bed was built using 20mm steel rounds working on compression and suspension, and 8mm corrugated rods in tension.

A set of movable stairs created an easy way for people to reach the platform, while also being able to be used throughout the interior when needed to reach high places.

Adjacent to the bed are a few more stairs that lead up to an outdoor space.

A hanging planter is a great way to fill a corner in a room or an empty wall. This modern hanging planter created by designer Yuval Tzur has a simple teardrop shape that can be hung as a single planter, or grouped together at different heights to create a cluster.

Extensive Hanging Plants Soften The Use Of Concrete In This Homes Design

MIA Design Studio has completed a home in Vietnam, for their client who wanted not only a comfortable but also convenient living space situated in the center of a hectic city.

The home, which has a concrete structure, is softened by the use of lianas (or climbing vines).

The ‘Floating Towers’ Hanging Woven Sculptures

The ‘Floating Towers’ Hanging Woven Sculptures

Argentinian artist and designer Cristián Mohaded, has created ‘Floating Towers’, a group of hanging woven sculptures.

After designing the sculpture, Cristián connected with a local artisan to create the pieces using a traditional basketry technique of northern Argentina called simbol, which is named after a plant fiber that grows in the Argentine province of Catamarca.

The end result is three sculptures that feature a variety of differently shaped pieces stacked upon one another.

Up close, different weaving techniques can be seen and appreciated.

Floating Towers was presented as a centerpiece in the “Encuentros” space, that was designed together with architects José L. Lorenzo, Josefina Roca, and Nené Herbera.
