This Circular Shaped Home Was Designed To Wrap Around A Central Garden

Przemek Olczyk from Mobius Architekci has recently completed a new home in Izabelin, Poland, that features a circular design.

The home, designed for an art lover and collector who wanted features inspired by gallery spaces, has large windows that provide glimpses of the interior.

The exterior of the home is covered in vertical wood siding, with the first floor dedicated to the social areas of the home, and the upper floor dedicated to the private areas.

Surrounded by forest, the home is built from a reinforced concrete structure that is clad with panels of Okume wood. This exotic wood – elegant and knotless – perfectly blends the building into its surroundings.

A unique element of this home is the garden that’s centrally located within the design of the home, providing a green space to relax in.

Przemek Olczyk explains, “I thought of the house as a big piece of a tree trunk. Designing through reduction looked like hewing pockets of rooms and cozy, semi-private, glazed alcoves into the wood.”

When Studio O+A were asked to design the interiors of the new San Francisco offices of Slack, they drew inspiration from the forest for the 7th floor, specifically fairy rings.

The fairy ring, that’s helped shaped different seating areas within the office, comes from the natural growth pattern of the large redwoods on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Some of the seating has planters that wrap around the interior of the circle, while others have been slightly sunken to provide added interest.

Circular Niches Are A Fun Design Detail In This French Apartment

Circular Niches Are A Fun Design Detail In This French Apartment

Architect Pierre-Louis Gerlier has given a fresh and colorful update to an apartment that’s located in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.

Many years ago the apartment was actually a garage, and after originally transforming it into an apartment and living in it for several years, the client approached Pierre-Louis Gerlier to make the space modern and bright.

The lower level of this French house was once a garage, which has since been turned into an apartment. #Architecture

Due to the lack of natural light in the apartment, a full wall mirror was included in the living room to reflect the light that comes through from the doors that open to the patio and garden.

On the opposite wall, there’s minimalist white cabinetry that has multiple circular niches designed with different uses in mind. The largest circle has been defined as a seating nook, with an upholstered cushion that lines the bottom half of the shape, while the others have shelving for a computer and speakers.

Throughout the apartment, bold colors were introduced to compensate for the lack of light in the apartment, like the bright yellow that’s been used in the dining area and the kitchen.

A Backlit Circular Headboard Illuminates This Bedroom

A Backlit Circular Headboard Illuminates This Bedroom

As part of an interior project for a home in Macau, Max Lam Designs included a circular headboard in a bedroom that draws inspiration from Chinese culture.

Using natural materials to create a sense of warmth and calm, the design of the headboard observes the Chinese concept of “Earth’s a square; heaven a circle”.

The headboard not only adds a decorative element to the room, it’s also been designed with hidden lighting, helping to create a calm atmosphere.

The Brick Walls Alternate Between Circular Patterns And Tiny Windows On This New Building

The Brick Walls Alternate Between Circular Patterns And Tiny Windows On This New Building

Using custom bricks, Hooba Design has designed a new building in Tehran, Iran, with uniquely patterned walls, both inside and out.

Multiple different brick designs were used for the building, which are visible on both the exterior and the interior.

The first of the brick designs include small round windows that are filled with glass. When light shines through, it creates a patterned design on the walls. However, when there’s no external light, the glass reflects its surroundings.

The modern bricks with the small windows also cast shadows throughout the building, and provide light to otherwise darker areas.

The second type of brick has small round indents that reflect the design of the circular windows. This allows texture to be included on the walls, adding interest to the overall design.

Circular Seating Along This River Help Locals Learn The History Of The Area

Circular Seating Along This River Help Locals Learn The History Of The Area

Architect Robert Skitek of RS+ has designed a series of public seating shelters that line a walkway along a river in Cieszyn, Poland, that’s also the border with the Czech Republic.

Provided with a very narrow and abandoned strip of land on the steep bank of the Olza River, the architect aimed to create an attractive public space and to design carriers for an exhibition about the history of a divided area.

Designed to be an ‘Outdoor Museum’, the circular seating platforms named ‘The Times Circles’, encourage people to relax and enjoy the view, but at the same time, they also provide a moment to learn about the history of the area.

The architects mention, “the most important challenge was to create a characteristic element – a symbol of the Museum, which would link areas belonging to two different countries. We decided to create a kind of appeal for those walking on the other side of the border river: “hey, here we are, it’s worth coming here, we invite you warmly”.

At night ‘The Times Circles’ are illuminated to attract the attention of pedestrians and provide information about important events in the history of the city. This information can be seen on the plaques that are attached to the exterior of the circles.
