This Small Wall Mounted Shelf Transforms Into A Desk For Working At Home

Woodendot, a design studio and furniture maker from Spain, has created Alada, a wall-mounted shelf that transforms into a desk.

The design of the shelf was inspired by the movement that birds draw on the sky when they move their wings up and down.

This simple movement enabled the designers to seamlessly transform the furniture piece from a wall desk to a decorative shelf in just seconds, or vice versa.

When folded and on display as a shelf, the minimal design of Alada allows for invisible storage hidden behind, perfect for gadgets or notebooks.

Rob Ley Studio Creates Oversized Wall Art In Downtown Atlanta

A large art installation on the side of a building.

Los Angeles-based artist Rob Ley, has recently completed ‘Pangaea’, a large artwork that was commissioned for the NCR Headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.

The art installation is made from a series of layered aluminum ribbons that interact with a field of points located throughout this exterior wall, creating a collection of interconnected nodes, hubs, and conduits.

Named after the prehistoric supercontinent of Pangaea, the artist explains, “this large-scale artwork is a collection of autonomous ‘islands’ that assemble into a singular, 3-story composition.”

The three-dimensional mural is made from painted aluminum, and measures in at 22 feet wide, 26 1/2 feet high, and has a depth of 1 foot.

The Roving Bushtops Camp Sits Proudly In The Heart Of The Central Serengeti

Andy and Claudia Stuart have created a place where visitors to Tanzania and Kenya can enjoy the Serengeti and everything a safari involves. #Safari #Serengeti

Andy and Claudia Stuart have created a place where visitors to Tanzania and Kenya can enjoy the Serengeti and everything a safari involves, while staying in a modern tent.

The Roving Bushtop Camp has all the comforts of home and allows guests to have their own private sanctuary that’s surrounded by the sweeping plains. The tents include a writing desk and a host of decorative touches, including locally-sourced furniture and fittings.

Raised up on a platform, the tents can be combined to create ‘family style’ accommodation, while an en-suite bathroom behind the sleeping area includes a flushing toilet, vanity basin, and shower. The wrap-around deck also features a sunken bath tub.

The Roving Bushtops’ central mess tent combines a restaurant, a lounge, and a covered deck.

Inside the mess tent, the furnishings have been kept to an earthy color palette, with woods and light colored cushions.

The Lift Treetop Boutique Hotel Recently Opened In Indonesia

The Lift Treetop Boutique Hotel Recently Opened In Indonesia

Designed by Alexis Dornier, the Lift Treetop Boutique Hotel located in Penestanan, Indonesia, started out as a testing ground for ideas on how to lift structures off the ground, to have a less invasive footprint and impact, and be more cost-effective and faster to build.

Alexis mentions, “Many developments here on this island use high quantities of concrete, and the experience is often times the same. We wanted to challenge that and create light architecture while suggesting a surreal mix of industrial impermanent structures embedded into a tropical forest.”

The hotel is surrounded by a park-like setting, has facilities like a sauna, a little pool, a bar, seating areas, and other small recreational areas.

Each of the three treetop cabins has spiral stairs that take you up to your room. By being so high, aspects like passive cooling, passive shading through adjacent trees, and being away from mosquito shrubs, are a welcome benefit.

Each of the three hotel rooms has a different design. The first one has a more traditional design, with a four-post bed, exposed ceiling, and a small narrow bathroom.

The second design has a glass wall separating the bedroom from the bathroom, while windows provide plenty of light and views of the trees.

The third hotel room has floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap around the room, and light curtains can be closed for privacy. This room also has a larger bathroom that features a wood screen, allowing natural light to pass through.

Two of the hotel rooms also have their own outdoor space for relaxing and taking in the scenery.
